Magnetic field

Very fascinating stuff, just now trying to understand how they work. Yesterday I heard about how magnetic fields are used for speakers "The coil generates a magnetic field when electricity is applied to it. The magnet attracts or repels the coil and makes it to move. The vibration generates the sound that we hear thanks to the air."

Then today I read about the loss of mars' magnetic field, "The loss of Mars' magnetic field may have played a critical role in the planet's evolution from the warm and wet world scientists suspect it was into the cold, dry desert that exists today.

Magnetic fields, similar to Earth's, protect planets from cosmic rays. They also help maintain the atmosphere by shielding molecules from solar radiation."

But I still don't understand the very very basics of magnetism. Of course the attraction and repelling around the poles I understand, but how in this world does magnetism exist? Is it just one of those things like gravity that you accept but can never fully understand? Who is a physics major help me out here!

How about the connection between the personal magnetism between people( law of attraction) and perhaps the loss of magnetism on Mars?

Could it be possible by increasing the positve magnetism on Earth to sustain it longer? Would our demise be less compromised by our postive magnetism?

Just a thought?!
